The Winslow Boutique Hotel & Spa

ADHM 353, Studio IV-Large Scale Contract Design

Spring 2022

The Winslow Boutique Hotel was a partner project. My partner, McKenzie Wessels, and I collaborated using Revit and Enscape to create the construction documents and renderings. We worked together to create many pieces of this project, but I created all renderings on this page.

The Winslow Spa (renderings shown in images 5-7) was the individual portion of this project. I also used Revit and Enscape to complete the construction documents and renderings.

Just like the other studio courses, this course and project began with research to understand how to create a well designed boutique hotel and spa. To pay homage to the history of this building and Fargo, ND I kept the existing brick that surrounds the building. I also converted the old safe into an intimate study room.

My largest takeaway from this course was understanding the affect of biophilic design elements and how stress-relieving they can be in the built environment.

The Nest: Supportive Housing
Community Wing

ADHM 351: Interior Design Studio III-Advanced Residential

Fall 2020

The Nest was a supportive housing project specifically for veterans facing homelessness. This project was a partner project. To create this project, my partner, Isaac Stauffacher,  and I worked together to create the construction documents on AutoCAD. I then built models for the community spaces on SketchUp, and rendered those models with Enscape.

The design for The Nest combines rustic, natural design features with industrial accents to urbanize the space. The industrial accents also create some great contrast to the warm wooden tones used throughout. The use of warm tones, organic materials, and soft textures throughout the space create a comforting, homely feel. Veterans will feel welcomed walking into the space by seeing that it is open, with clear wayfinding, filled with warm handcrafted materials, and décor that honors them as veterans.

Through the entire process of this project, I was fortunate enough to have multipole veterans who are now social workers focusing on creating better treatment systems for US veterans. This opportunity allowed for specific, real, and raw data to improve our design. For this project, Isaac and I focused on creating a space that allows for comfort, social interaction, and inclusivity.

The Martin Residence

ADHM 251: Interior Design Studio II-Residential

Fall 2020

The Martin Residence is the only true residential design project I experienced through my education at NDSU. This was an individual project, focused on creating an Art Deco inspired penthouse suite for recently empty nesters in downtown Fargo, ND. For this project I utilized hand drafting techniques as well as Sketch Up for the perspective of the Primary Suit. I then hand rendered each of the construction document.

As this project is for empty nesters, they did not want to have to ever move from this penthouse, so it was imperative to understand and bring in aging in-place design strategies like zero-entry showers, completely wet-rated walls in restrooms, and pathways that exceed ADA standards.
