I collaborated with the University of Minnesota’s Capital Management project manager to refresh two key spaces on the St. Paul campus: the main lounge and entrance corridor of Bailey Hall, and a large corridor within the St. Paul Student Center. Our scope included abatement documentation as well as the design and installation of new flooring, paint, and furniture for both locations.
Because these areas had not been updated in more than 20 years, our design intent centered on bringing energy and warmth back into the spaces. We introduced bold, large-scale patterns and layered in a palette of solid, cohesive colors to create visual balance. Durability and long-term performance were essential considerations for the University, so we specified high-durability vinyl textiles with recycled content to align with their sustainability standards. In Bailey Hall, we retained the existing wood lounge furniture to support both sustainability and cost-efficiency.
Overall, our goal for both spaces was to provide a mix of seating options that support individual and group use, enhance comfort and accessibility, and remain bright, inviting, and resilient for years to come.

University of MN - Elliott Hall, Office N426 Design
September 2025
I collaborated with a University of Minnesota professor to design his new office in Elliott Hall, creating a space that balances comfort, warmth, and functionality. Since he frequently meets with students to review documents, the office needed to feel welcoming and supportive while maintaining a professional and clean aesthetic.
To address Minnesota’s dreary long winters, the design emphasized brightness and warmth through a carefully selected palette of interior finishes, including paint, flooring, and window treatments. Natural light was enhanced with light-toned shades, while layered textures and soft furnishings brought a sense of comfort and ease.
The furniture package combined functional desking and storage with inviting seating, including a sofa and guest chairs to encourage relaxed student interactions. Accent lighting and thoughtfully placed markerboards supported both collaboration and productivity.
The result is a bright, inviting office that not only meets the professor’s practical needs but also provides a comforting, student-centered environment that reflects his approachable teaching style.

Our ongoing partnership with the University of Minnesota has provided opportunities to redesign a variety of academic and collaborative spaces across campus. These renderings highlight two recent projects, one of which included a complete redesign of two professors’ offices, three student labs, and a shared office.
The design process centered on the professors’ goals: to create spaces that are vibrant, lively, and accessible for all users. Biophilia played a central role in the overall concept, bringing natural textures, colors, and patterns into the environment to promote wellness and connection.
We developed the interior finishes and furniture solutions for each space, ensuring a cohesive balance of functionality and warmth. By integrating inclusive design principles with natural inspiration, the result is a series of environments that encourage collaboration, support student learning, and reflect the energy of the university community.
